Lorry driver, attendant killed in fiery crash on NSE


SEREMBAN: A lorry driver and his attendant were burnt to death after their vehicle crashed into a concrete divider along the North-South Expressway near here and caught fire.

Seremban police chief Asst Comm Nanda Maarof said the accident occurred at around 9am on Friday (Jan 20) along KM259.6 of the southbound stretch near the Port Dickson toll plaza.

"The vehicle, which was carrying plastic resin, was heading towards Senawang from Klang.

"We believe the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer onto the fast lane and crash into the divider," he said, adding that the impact of the crash caused the trailer lorry to catch fire.

ACP Nanda said the driver of the vehicle, Mazlan Molot, 48, and the other victim who is believed to be his wife, Fauziah Uyop, who is in her 40s, were trapped in the wreckage.

He said police and PLUS personnel had to close the stretch and reroute traffic.

"We quickly opened an alternative route to allow smooth flow of traffic," he said, adding that the case was being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
